Our Museum Gift Shop offers a curated collection of books, gifts, jewellery and locally made art which represents Canmore’s culture, history and landscapes.

Located in the Canmore Civic Centre in the heart of downtown, the Canmore Museum connects visitors with the people, places and stories that have shaped Canmore and the Bow Valley.

Accessibility & Facilities

The Canmore Museum is located inside the Canmore Civic Centre at 902B 7th Avenue in downtown Canmore.

Paid street parking and surface lot parking are available nearby

Canmore is accessible via Roam Transit; the 5C and 5T buses within Canmore are free for everyone

Automated doors are located at both the east and west sides of the building

Public washrooms are available inside the Civic Centre building, but are not barrier-free

Picnic facilities are located in the Rotary Friendship Park, immediately behind the Civic Centre

The Canmore Museum cares for a growing collection of art, objects, geological specimens, photographs, maps and archival records documenting Canmore and the Bow Valley.

  • “ Went last Friday evening after a day of hiking and honestly wasn't expecting much from a small town museum, but the geoscience displays on the Rockies formation blew me away. The staff at the front desk gave us a quick rundown of what not to miss since we only had about an hour before closing, which was a nice touch. Parking right out front made it easy to duck in without hunting for a spot downtown. Coming from Ontario I don't get much exposure to this kind of mountain geology stuff, so seeing the local mineral and rock specimens up close was a real highlight of our trip.” - Riya

  • “ We had a wonderful family visit to the Canmore Museum. Admission was very reasonable—$10 for adults and free for kids! Although the space is relatively compact (around 1,200 sq ft), it is remarkably well-curated and packed with fascinating exhibits. It beautifully tells the story of Canmore’s coal mining history, from its origins to the hardships faced by the miners. We also loved learning about the history of the Engine Bridge—how it was built, damaged by fire, and restored—as well as how Canmore played a role in the great Canadian Transcontinental Railway.
    ​We ended up spending well over an hour here because there was so much engaging information. The kids loved it, and we even picked up some nice souvenirs at the gift shop on our way out.
