WITH THE PUBLIC

School Program Assistant
Many school groups visit the museum and there is often a need for volunteers to help with the programs. Volunteers are needed to help lead or assist with tours, activities, or crafts for various ages.

Museum Interpreter
For larger groups or tours, volunteers are invited to assist in leading group tours and/or programs and to be the friendly face of the museum answering questions.

Museum Attendant
The volunteer will help visitors with shop purchases, greet and orient visitors to the Museum, answer visitor questions, and assist in the maintenance of attendance records. Must enjoy working with the public, have good communication and math skills, be comfortable working with a computer, and be able to work without direct supervision.

Special Event Assistant
The Museum hosts many events throughout the year.  Volunteers are needed to help to set up and staff special events at the museum, including handing out materials, greeting visitors and answering questions.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Archives and Collections Projects
The management of the archive and artifact collections is a core function of the museum.  If you like to catalogue and care for objects, records, maps and photographs, this is a great opportunity for you.

Research Projects
Exhibit, artifact and local history research is an ongoing process for the museum. If you like to do research, this option is for you. Research projects are developed by the Collections Officer.

Exhibit Assistance
Temporary exhibits at the museum change at various times of the year under the direction of the Executive Officer. Volunteer tasks may include research, cleaning artifacts, helping to install or assemble exhibits, and dismantle exhibits.

Gardening
The heritage gardens are located at the Canmore NWMP Barracks and are attended by volunteers from April to September.  Each year, over 600 lbs of vegetables from the gardens are donated to the local food bank and the flower garden is a great source of pride for the community.
