Heinz Pyszczyk, while working for the Government of Alberta (1983 – 2016), has investigated
and published on various central and northern fur trade posts in Alberta. His website
(CanEHdianstories.com) includes blogs about Canadian history and archaeology. He curated the
new Indigenous-Euro Canadian Contact gallery, ‘Worlds Meet’ for the Royal Alberta Museum.
Dr. Pyszczyk is currently adjunct professor at the University of Lethbridge and was involved in
the University’s International Field School at the Fort Vermilion site in northern Alberta. He
recently co-authored a book: Cartographic Poetry. Examining Historic Blackfoot and Gros
Ventre Maps. (Ted Binnema, Francois Lanoë, and Heinz W. Pyszczyk). He has also written a book
of historical fiction entitled Tales of the Canadian Fur Trade.
In his lecture, entitled “ARTIFACTS THAT MADE ‘TALES OF THE CANADIAN FUR TRADE, Heinz will
talk about some unusual fur trade artifacts which he used in his recently published book.
